Experience the NOW...!!! Thats all there really is...
Excerpt from Dan Clurmans' interview with Eckhart Tolle...from Meditation Blog...for further reading, check out "The Power of Now" by Eckhrt Tolle or "The new Earth"...try something new...It could be just what you're looking for.
DC: Do you have any suggestions for how to remember, how to stay awake to the now?
ET: A built-in reminder is the simple understanding that whenever any kind of unhappiness arises, you know you've lost the now. That's a built-in alarm clock. The moment you realize you've lost the now, come back to the now. Immediately the alertness is back. It's always available. After a while, when you see that you're identified with thinking, that you are basically asleep in the dreamland of thought, then step out of thought into now. Again, suddenly, you're awake. Sense perceptions, simple beingness, presence, stillness: all here, now. After a while, presence becomes more self-sustaining because the qualitative difference is so vast between the state of presence and being identified with mental noise. As you become familiar with presence, you will "choose" presence more and more, rather than being identified with thought. Actually, the ability to choose presence depends on the degree of presence that's emerging in you. Ultimately, you are not choosing, there's nobody there to choose. When you think you are choosing, presence is simply emerging in that moment. But if I say, "There's nothing you can do," that is not helpful. I say you can choose presence, but I know presence is really choosing you.
DC: The sense of presence becomes so satisfying in itself. Presence basks in the sense of presence, and paradoxically, it looks like nothing is going on.
ET: Presence remains even amidst worldly activities. Stillness is there even when you're doing something quickly, like rushing to answer the phone. Otherwise you would be condemned to moving in slow motion.
DC: Presence also has no form, yet there's a recognition of presence amidst form. It's easy to think that it's a characteristic of some form, but there's no location to presence at all.
ET: When there's a teacher who embodies presence, then it seems to come for a while through that opening. The teacher is an opening to presence. But ultimately, that's just a temporary perception; presence has no physical place. Again, paradox comes back in. Presence seems to come from a physical place.
DC: Even looking at trees or plants, when there's a sense of presence, everything seems to radiate presence.
ET: That's so. The whole world changes when there's presence—sunlight everywhere–because you're not separate from the world.
DC: It feels like such a gift to celebrate this presence together, a blessing.
ET: Questions have dissolved, haven't they?

Great site for those of you who wish to sell your work and learn new ways to market yourself..
I just stumbled across this exceptional website...http://www.artbusiness.com/. that focuses on everything that has to do with buying and selling art. It covers everything from how to get grants..http://www.artbusiness.com/osorgrants.html...to selling your artwork in a weak economy..http://www.artbusiness.com/econosell.html..and avoiding common artist website mistakes...http://www.artbusiness.com/weberrors.html...I thought the article on producing and creating prints of your work was very informative and a great indroduction to this site..
(...taken from...ArtBusiness.com)
If you plan on producing lots of inkjet prints, think seriously about buying your own equipment, or perhaps buying it together with several other artists. Printer prices have plummeted in recent years to the point where they can pay for themselves in relatively short periods of time. Hiring publishers or fine art printers to print your prints is rapidly becoming a thing of the past (except for specialized artisan or print publishing workshops known for producing exceptionally high quality images). Keep in mind, though, that when you buy your own equipment, you have to learn to use it.
Additional pointers:
► Shop around and compare prices before contracting work out. Get references from other artists who use the same publishers to be sure you get good value, good service, and quality images for your money.
► Make sure your image files are large enough to produce superior quality prints, and use printers capable of printing in high resolution (high dpi). You don't want dot matrix patterns to be visible on your prints (unless showing dot patterns is an intended characteristic of your art). Color fields should be crisp and clean with no overlap or fuzzy edges.
► Know the characteristics of your inks. Under what conditions will they fade? Are they water-resistant? Should they be protected with finishes? Should they be displayed only in low light? If you want your art to last, it's important to use the best inks, papers, and protective coatings available.
► Use pigmented inks only. Dye-based inks fade substantially over time. By the way, the last time I checked, Iris printers still can't use pigmented inks, so avoid Iris prints.
► Make sure you know what equipment is being used to print your images, as well as what inks, papers, and dpi (resolution). See samples of exactly what you're contracting for before you sign any dotted lines, and be sure the quality of those samples meets with your approval.
► Think about offering a little extra for early buyers of your latest editions-- maybe a little larger size, special paper, a personal statement, or other add-ons. Showing consideration to your first few buyers encourages them to buy first again, and might encourage other buyers to get in line quicker the next time.
► The nature of digital art is such that even though you print the same file over and over again, you can make each image unique with relatively minor changes. So experiment with different options-- you may end up pioneering techniques that digital artists will follow for years to come.

Some of my favs of the ocean..the way I see it..
I grew up on the north shore of Long Island, my front yard was the Long Island sound, not the ocean but close enough for kid. Now we live about 40 minutes from the Atlantic ocean..and there is nothing better than the ocean breeze, salt air and hot sun on your face. It is definitley my favorite palce to go and that is why I seem to be obsessed with creating ocean and wave scenes....My favorite artist who creates Hawaaian Waves and ocean scenes is Heather Brown..her art is incredible and you can find her at...http://www.heatherbrownart.com/

This is a birds eye view of Bayville and the red dot is where I grew up..looks very serene here but I remember the waves..they were really big when I was realy little..!!

Laughter....LOLOLOLOLOLOL....why its so good for you..!!
Not a day goes by where I dont have to stop myself in my tracks due to uncontrollable laughter..It usually happens with one or both of my daughters and/or my husband..and it usually revolves around some crazy comment or "bad habit" one of us has or repeats..Ive read about the benefits of laughing and here are a few great reasons why you need to loosen up and Laugh
from..The Laughing Cure
By Elizabeth Scott, M.S
Stress Management Benefits of Laughter:
Hormones: Laughter reduces the level of stress hormones like cortisol, epinephrine (adrenaline), dopamine and growth hormone. It also increases the level of health-enhancing hormones like endorphins, and neurotransmitters. Laughter increases the number of antibody-producing cells and enhances the effectiveness of T cells. All this means a stronger immune system, as well as fewer physical effects of stress.
Physical Release: Have you ever felt like you "have to laugh or I'll cry"? Have you experienced the cleansed feeling after a good laugh? Laughter provides a physical and emotional release.
Internal Workout: A good belly laugh exercises the diaphragm, contracts the abs and even works out the shoulders, leaving muscles more relaxed afterward. It even provides a good workout for the heart.
Distraction: Laughter brings the focus away from anger, guilt, stress and negative emotions in a more beneficial way than other mere distractions.
Perspective: Studies show that our response to stressful events can be altered by whether we view something as a 'threat' or a 'challenge'. Humor can give us a more lighthearted perspective and help us view events as 'challenges', thereby making them less threatening and more positive.
Social Benefits of Laughter: Laughter connects us with others. Also, laughter is contagious, so if you bring more laughter into your life, you can most likely help others around you to laugh more, and realize these benefits as well. By elevating the mood of those around you, you can reduce their stress levels, and perhaps improve the quality of social interaction you experience with them, reducing your stress level even more!

For those of you who do not know what a Wacom tablet is..I thought I would post this for anyone who is intersted in utilizing a real pen/pencil like experience on the computor..You literally draw with the Wacom pen and it goes onto your computor screen...combine this with Painter X by Corel(real bristle brushes + more...painting program) and you can have an art studio that has all the benfits of oils, watercolors, acrylic, pen, ink and hundreds of other mediums all in one small package..and without the mess..!! Of course it does not replace all the messy fun stuff..but is easily accessible when you are out of your home or away from you studio...twice the fun and half the mess, actually no mess..!! The wacom tablet comes with 4 Software programs including Painter 3.. a somewhat beginner level program but equally benficial..Painter X is more expensive yet more expansive..but the earlier levels ar fantastic too..!!
Intuos - Features & Benefits
Easy to use. It's easy to use a pen tablet because every point on the tablet has a matching point on the screen. When you move your pen over the tablet, the cursor moves in precisely the same way on the screen. Where you touch your pen tip to the tablet is where you click.
Pressure sensitivity. With 1,024 levels of pressure sensitivity, you can control your software tools by changing how hard you press the pen tip on the tablet. Using pressure sensitivity, you can dynamically control things like exposure, brush size, opacity, and more.
Intuos3 Pen Tablet. The sloping, contoured palm rest provides comfort while you work. Adjust your cord position vertically or horizontally for greater workspace flexibility. The eight-foot cable allows you to kick back while you work.

The History of ACEO's
The History of ATC'sArt Cards have a very long and very interesting history.
Art cards or miniatures where the rage in the 16th century. They were mostly portraits and they were sold, not traded or given away. They were the first wallet "photos". Men would have nudes painted of their Mistresses on art cards (without their wives knowing)--usually by the same Artist that would do the big family portraits of their wives. Miniature Portraits would be used for exchange when rich people arranged marriages. In fact, this caused a big problem for poor Henry the Eighth, when the artist who painted his fourth wife, Anne of Cleves, took a little too much "artistic license". Poor Anne was not up to standard and Henry divorced her.
The French artists were the first to come up with advertisement on the art cards. It wasn't until the mid-1700's that the English picked up on the idea of using the Art cards for advertising. The Art Cards of Europe are slightly larger than ours as is their standard deck of playing cards is much larger than ours.
During the Impressionist Age artists traded art cards among themselves to study each other's style and techniques. They also traded or sold the art cards as necessary for supplies, food and lodging
In 1887 "baseball" cards started to appear. These early cards are now very rare and it is uncertain what they were made of. They were not mass produced. During the period 1902 - 1935 baseball was in its golden years. Cards during this time were usually sold with bubble gum, chewing tobacco and cracker jacks. As they were marketed with different size products, baseball cards were different sizes and it was not until the 1960s that the modern 2.5 x 3.5 size was standardized.
Today there is a resurgence of hand made art cards for sale and trade. Happy Collecting!!!

I think Im going to focus on little ACEOs..art cards the size of baseball cards..2.5 x 3.5 in size..they are highly collectible and sooo cute..You can get them everywhere and many artists offer one when you buy larger art..Ive been selling these cards for 2 years on Ebay and Etsy and I thought it would be nice to have a place for showcasing these little gems..during this current economy..they are affordable and easily displayed in many ways..follow along and submit any ideas, or individual aceo artworks you simply love...Thanks Robin

As everyones know, I am addicted to creating ocean, waves, sun ink and watercolor abstracts...I am trying to deviate from this to expand or whatever, ..."my horizons"..which brings me to my new love for digital art and collage..!! Not just turning something done on paper to a didital version (Ive done that too) but actually utilizing Painter X from corel (great and expensive program) and creating from scratch, scraps and painted sources saved from previous attempts..!!

Old Boots...Hardship? Economic "Theory"...poor soles...

This post is for Illustration Friday Theme: 'Theory". This was a project in Drawing II. We had to take an object with character and render it in 4 or 5 different views, then put it on a large scale layout and capture the lights and darks as well as depth. This was a great assignment to learn what can be done with pencil and graphite dust.

Read my *Art*...
So I was reading that when you have nothing to say just post your art, it speaks many words, and that is what I am planning on doing. At this point blogging is new to me and Im not really sure which way Im going with it.. Although I know I want it to be revolved around art, Im not exactly sure how I would like to present my written word or how I would like to abstract my thoughts. I like just posting my art as it is revealing a part of myself that has no words, my work is how I feel even when I have nothing to say...so read my art and catch a glimpse into who I am and what Im feeling, for now that is....

The end is the beginning...
So Ive decided to discontinue taking art classes for the time being. You know when its time, and Ive been going straight for about 3 1/2 - 4 years now, part time yes but still very time consuming. With work, kids and everthing else Ive just decided its time. So now I can utilize my time for my own creations and focus on the inspirations around me. At school I did have the luxury of constant artistic stimuli and incredible teachers and students. I will miss that, but will now have the time to focus on my own ideas and create whenever the spirit moves me! That is what I am having a problem with now,...so many ideas and a lack of motivation or should I say slow-tivation. Im having trouble getting through what I believe may be my first artists block. So if any of you out there have any suggestions please feel free to let me know...at least ways in which you were helped through it.. Thanks!

To Grandmothers house we go.........
After dining at "Pancake House" and five loads of wash, The gals and I went of to see "Granny Anny". She is a funny lady, not always has been, but aging agrees with
her. Our discussions are definitely on the controversial side, and the kids think it hysterical to "shine the moon" at her, I guess I do too. The look on her face is priceless...She gets mad when we play the piano at her house, which one of us always does.. Stop It...Stop It...she says, and we crack up! When she plays we say Stop It..Stop It.... and we crack up! I guess you gotta be there.
At breakfast we got extra meals, extra chairs and an extra table..How do you like that. Thought they were insinuating we were large...what the H_ _ _? The two extra plates we got we brought to the boys, Ozzman and Floyd, they were happy! Well Lata..

Fabric on Wood /shellieartist.etsy.com

Fabric on Wood Process- Each cut out piece of fabric is placed on the wood with a rice based starch and then polyurathaned several times. Some pieces are touched up with acrylic or oil paint, gel pens, oil pencils or anything I can get my hands on that I think will do the job.
This is a wonderful piece from a talented artist on Etsy.com. She also has prints and really good prices!!WOW

Kathy Griffen..This Tuesday, Madison Square Garden. Can't wait, it was sold out immediately, all three nights. We had to get tickets on Stub-Hub, and even that was difficult. I think she is hysterical, I know at times controversial but still she says things that many are really thinking but afraid to say!

beginning..........

Hello Everyone! My Favorite Quote: "
"Yesterday was History, Tomorrow is a Mystery, and Today is a gift, that why its called the Present" So Im going to make the most of each present I get. No matter how uncreative I may feel I will at least try one creative task a day. Be it painting or some other artistic expression, or thinking a new thought or idea, even saying a new word; that is one of my goals for the future! Today Im starting my Blog, very long awaited. Dont know what Im focusing on yet but at least getting started.
